German Chancellor Angela Merkel is suggesting a burqa ban in the country. She said: “The full veil is not appropriate here. It should be banned wherever it’s legally possible.”
It’s worth noting that a burqa ban in Germany would affect relatively few women, probably only somewhere in the hundreds. But, Merkel’s stance may be in response to criticisms that she has handled the refugee crisis in Germany poorly, and right now, Merkel is up for reelection.
