American Man Accused of Pushing Woman in Front of Bus in London Arrested

Earlier this week, British police released surveillance footage from a bridge in London. It showed a male jogger pushing an unsuspecting woman with both hands into the road. She narrowly escaped getting hit by a bus, which swerved to avoid hitting her. She said that the jogger later returned to the site, but ignored her as she tried confronting him and just kept running. Police hoped releasing the video could help them find the man. And yesterday, a 50-year-old American man was arrested in London. Police said multiple tips from the public had led to the arrest of Eric Bellquist, who has been working at an equity firm in the British capital for 10 years.

But Bellquist denies being the perpetrator and claims he has “solid proof” he was in the U.S. at the time of the attack, on May 5. He was later released on bail. It’s unclear how strong the evidence is and he is not facing any criminal charges yet. The senseless act caused outrage on social media but also applause for the bus driver’s quick reflexes.
