Beyoncé just announced a new scholarship program called the “Formation Scholars” awards–obviously named after the song “Formation” that was released on her album “Lemonade” exactly a year ago. Her website explains the program, stating: “Four scholarships will be awarded, one per college, to female, incoming, current or graduate students pursuing studies in creative arts, music, literature or African-American studies. The schools selected for participation are Berklee College of Music, Howard University, Parsons School of Design, and Spelman College.” Two of those schools are HBCUs and two specialize in the arts, which seem to fit with the focus of the scholarships.
