With great fame comes great...er chances of being sued. Nobody knows this fact better than celebrities, and 2016 was no different. This past year we saw some of our most beloved stars entangled in celebrity court battles ranging from the bizarre to the just plain wrong. For the sake of nostalgia, here are our picks for the top celebrity legal battles of 2016!

7. Nick Gordon Owes $36 Million For Bobbi Kristina’s Death

In 2016, an Atlanta judge found Nick Gordon legally responsible for the death of Bobbi Kristina Brown in a wrongful death lawsuit brought by her family. Bobbi Kristina Brown, the daughter of Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown, died in a way that was chillingly similar to that of her mother–she was found unconscious in a bathtub in her home.

The civil suit alleged that Gordon administered a “toxic cocktail” of drugs and alcohol before placing her face down in the tub. While Gordon was never charged with a crime in his girlfriend’s death, he was ordered to pay $36 million in damages.
