Alabama Theater Protests “Beauty and the Beast” Because of Gay Character

A lot of us can’t wait until the live-action adaptation of the Disney classic “Beauty and the Beast” starts playing in theaters, but one movie theater in Alabama decided to boycott the film. That is because Disney recently revealed that the character of LeFou will be the first ever openly gay character in a Disney movie–great news! But apparently, that doesn’t match well with the movie theater’s owners’ values. It released a statement that said, “When companies continually force their views on us we need to take a stand. We all make choices and I am making mine.” The statement also said, “If we can not take our 11-year-old granddaughter and 8-year-old grandson to see a movie we have no business watching it.” It also equated homosexuality in a movie with nudity and foul language. But, what does the theater think of the relationship between Belle and the Beast?
