Last night, authorities in South Korea announced that President Park Geun-hye is out of a job. After last year’s corruption scandal, hundreds of thousands of protesters demanded that Park step down and lawmakers eventually voted to impeach her. Yesterday the Constitution Court voted to uphold the impeachment and even more protests erupted, resulting in clashes between Park supporters and detractors. Park was the country’s first female president and also the first president to be impeached. Now the country has to hold a new election within two months.
South Korea’s political turmoil is obviously very important. But there’s another reason that this intense geopolitical situation has garnered some attention–one that you’ll probably see referenced more on social media than South Korea’s political woes. This morning, a BBC show invited Professor Robert E. Kelly to discuss the situation via Skype. His interview was interrupted by his two young children, and the funny clip has now gone viral.
