Brock Turner, previously a freshman member of Stanford University’s prestigious swimming team, was convicted earlier this month of raping an unconscious woman. The woman he raped wrote possibly one of the most powerful victim impact statements I have ever seen.
But despite the gruesome nature of the case, Turner received just a six month jail sentence, because the judge believed that “A prison sentence would have a severe impact on him.” And Turner’s dad thinks the six months is too long–he said: “His life will never be the one that he dreamed about and worked so hard to achieve. That is a steep price to pay for 20 minutes of action out of his 20 plus years of life.” But maybe Turner should have thought about that before he raped an unconscious woman.
