New York Daily News’ front page spared ZERO subtlety. It thanked the NRA for this weekend’s nightclub massacre, specifically the NRA’s continued lobbying against the ban of assault rifles. At a news conference, an agent for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms in Orlando confirmed that the shooter legally purchased a .223 caliber AR assault rifle and a 9mm handgun within the past two weeks in Florida. The shooter, Omar Mateen, was investigated twice before for terrorist ties to no avail. In a press conference, Obama called the shooting “homegrown extremism” although the young man boasted a connection to ISIS.
