According to two groups of Taliban fighters, Russia has been supplying the terrorist organization with weapons. While Russia and the Taliban’s predecessors–the Mujahideen–were at odds during the Cold War, Russia has allegedly been in contact with the Taliban for a while now.
CNN obtained videos that show Taliban fighters and their weapons, which have been stripped of any sort of identifying marks. Russia denies providing the Taliban with any weapons, and rightly so, given that it could be a violation of international law. The U.S. has long been worried about Russia potentially trying to gain more influence in Afghanistan, but these allegations are seen as more concrete evidence of that effort.
