President Trump is apparently ignoring polls that state he has the lowest approval rating of any new president in history and tweeted yesterday that all negative polls are fake.
A recent poll by Gallup, which has been put in the field for every president since Dwight D. Eisenhower, came out over the weekend and put his rating at 42 percent. By comparison, President Obama had a 66 percent approval rating around this point in his presidency.
Trump has made it a habit of claiming something is “fake news” when he doesn’t like it, but polls are generally based on interviews with a large sample of people, and margins of error are usually just a few percentage points. Trump clearly cares about popularity, so much that he still can’t let go of the fact that he lost the popular vote to Hillary Clinton even though he won the presidency.
