Another Yahoo Hack Affects 1 Billion Accounts

Yesterday, Yahoo announced that it was the victim of another big hack. One billion accounts—yes, there are still that many Yahoo users—were compromised in 2013. The data taken included phone numbers, security questions, and other personal information. This could be the largest computer hack of all time. The news caused Yahoo’s shares to drop 2.5 percent and will probably have some effect on the $4.8 billion sale of Yahoo to Verizon.

“The company has not been able to identify the intrusion associated with this theft,” Yahoo said on Wednesday. But a good tip for anyone with a Yahoo account is to make sure you have different passwords for your accounts on other sites, as hackers often find their way into multiple accounts by using the same password. Also, spoiler alert, “123456” is not a good password.
