John Kasich Vetoes Heartbeat Bill But Signs Another Abortion Bill

Yesterday Governor John Kasich of Ohio vetoed the much-criticized “heartbeat bill,” that would have made it illegal to have an abortion after six weeks of pregnancy. At six weeks, many women don’t even realize they are pregnant.

But Kasich did sign into law the other abortion bill that Ohio lawmakers recently passed. That one puts a 20-week limit on abortions, with no exceptions for rape or incest. According to Kasich, the heartbeat bill would have a harder road if legally challenged, as similar laws in other states have been deemed unconstitutional. But pro-choice activists decry the 20-week ban as well. So…maybe it’s just time for male politicians to stop deciding what women can and can’t do with their own bodies?
