Marco Rubio Is Against Zika Abortions

Should pregnant women infected with Zika be able to have abortions? It is a difficult question to ask and an even more difficult one to answer. But Marco Rubio seems to be dead-set on his proposal that Zika related abortions should be illegal, and the fetuses should be carried to term. Many healthcare professionals and experts are alarmed because the effects of Zika in pregnant women can result in an infant being born with severe micocephaly and “a lifetime of difficulties.” Rubio knows that a child with birth defects will be hard to care for. But because he is strictly pro-life, he is willing to risk it. A recent polling showed that 59 percent of respondents would favor a late-term abortion for fetuses shown to have the birth defect linked to the Zika virus.

Rubio is running for Senate re-election in November.
