Obama’s Response to Charlottesville is the Most Liked Tweet in History

After Charlottesville, President Obama tweeted a quote by Nelson Mandela. It was divided into three tweets and the first one was accompanied by a picture of him saying hello to small children through a window. That tweet is now the most liked in Twitter history, exceeding the one Ariana Grande posted after the Manchester terrorist attack on her concert.

Obama’s tweet currently has over three million likes and one million retweets, making it the fifth most retweeted tweet ever. The full quote reads, “No one is born hating another person because of the color of his skin or his background or his religion. People must learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love, for love comes more naturally to the human heart than its opposite.” It comes from Mandela’s autobiography from 1994.
