By All Means, Let’s be Horrible to the Gold-Winning Gymnast

Gabby Douglas, a member of the U.S. Women’s Gymnastics team that took home gold in the team final, was criticized for not putting her hand over her heart when the national anthem was played at the medal ceremony. Douglas kept her hands clasped at her waist, still absolutely a sign of respect, but a contrast to her teammates’ hands over their hearts.

After the outcry that followed, during which the 20-year-old two-time Olympic gold medalist was accused of being “unpatriotic” and a whole bunch of nasty things, she released an apology:
