Two conservative organizations backing political commentator Ann Coulter have filed a lawsuit against the University of California, Berkeley after it canceled an appearance by Coulter last week. She was scheduled to speak at the school on Thursday, but the university canceled the event due to security threats. “As individuals or part of a militia, they intend to come to the campus to support Ann Coulter. Our concerns have only grown,” said spokesman Dan Mogulof about the threats the school has received. Coulter was offered the opportunity to speak at a later date instead, but she insisted she wanted to speak on the original date.
Then, unexpectedly, Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders came to Coulter’s defense and said that everyone should have the right to express their opinions and that it’s better to “ask her the hard questions” than shut her down. And yesterday, the Berkeley College Republicans and Young America’s Foundation filed the federal lawsuit accusing Berkeley of restricting conservative speech on campus. To be continued…
