Crime in America 2016: Top 10 Safest Cities Over 200,000
The top three safest cities in the United States remained the same this year, with Irvine, California taking the number one spot, Gilbert, Arizona second on the list, and Fremont, California rounding out the top three. The top 10 also featured two cities that were not included on last year's list--Irving, Texas and Chula Vista, California, at number #9 and #10, respectively. All statistics are based on 2014 data from the FBI's Uniform Crime Report. Irving, Texas, reappeared on the list of safest cities this year after narrowly missing out last year at #11. However, Irving is not a newcomer to Law Street Media’s safest cities list; it ranked at #8 in the 2014 Crime in America release. Irving is located in the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area. Irving is back on the list after it reported a modest decrease in its violent crime rate of about five percent, with small but noticeable decreases in robbery and aggravated assault.

Murder Rate: 2/100,000 people
Population: 231,708
Officer to Population Ratio: 1:684
