The top three safest cities in the United States remained the same this year, with Irvine, California taking the number one spot, Gilbert, Arizona second on the list, and Fremont, California rounding out the top three. The top 10 also featured two cities that were not included on last year's list--Irving, Texas and Chula Vista, California, at number #9 and #10, respectively. All statistics are based on 2014 data from the FBI's Uniform Crime Report. Santa Clarita, California, moved from the #4 spot on the list to #5, after an almost 10 percent increase in violent crime. Santa Clarita, located north of Los Angeles, was new to Law Street’s list last year after its population grew to exceed 200,000. The ten percent increase appears to have come mostly from an increase in aggravated assaults, which went from 158 in 2013 to 199 in 2014.

Violent Crime Rate: 148/100,000 people
Murder Rate: .48/100,000 people
Population: 206,930
Officer to Population Ratio: Not Available
Rank Last Year: #4
