After a crime decrease in 2013 left Stockton, California off the list of Most Dangerous Cities, the city returned to the top 10 this year after a 10 percent increase in its violent crime rate. The change is largely due to an increase in reported aggravated assaults, which went from 2,411 in 2013 to 2,707 in 2014–an increase of about 12 percent. The city saw a notable increase in the number of murders with 49 in 2014, an increase of over 50 percent from the previous year.
