Crime in America 2016: Top 10 Most Dangerous Cities Over 200,000

Detroit is the most dangerous city with a population over 200,000 for a third year in a row. Although Detroit remains at the top of the list, its violent crime decreased by about 4 percent. Indianapolis, Indiana also makes its first appearance on the list this year at number 10. All statistics are based on 2014 data from the FBI's Uniform Crime Report. Milwaukee, WI: Top 10 Most Dangerous Cities Over 200,000 in 2016

Milwaukee, Wisconsin ranks #6 on this year’s rankings, moving up one spot after an increase of about 8 percent in its violent crime rate in 2014. This change is largely due to an increase in the number of robberies and aggravated assaults, which went up by 7 percent and 10 percent respectively. The city’s reported rape statistics remained relatively constant between 2013 and 2014, and the number of murders decreased by about 13 percent, dropping to 90 in 2014.
