
Hartford, Connecticut, moved one place from the #4 spot to #5 this year. This was accompanied by a 6 percent decrease in the violent crime rate in Hartford. Hartford had a noticeable decrease in robberies, from 557 in 2013 to 502 in 2014. However, there was also a slight uptick in aggravated assaults. Hartford also has one of the highest murder rates on this list at 15 murders per 100,000 people, although that represents a slight decrease from the previous year.
