Yesterday it was announced that President Donald Trump’s beleaguered press secretary Melissa McCarthy Sean Spicer, was resigning from his position. Spicer’s combative relationship with the press, bombastic attitude during press conferences, and consistent use of “alternative facts” made him one of the most recognizable press secretaries in recent years. So, the internet took news of his resignation pretty hard. Check out some of the funniest tweets below:

Comey Contradictions Are Everywhere

During a hearing yesterday, the acting director of the FBI, Andrew G. McCabe, contradicted what the White House has said about the firing of James Comey and the importance of the ongoing Russia inquiry. The administration has tried to downplay the latter, but McCabe said the inquiry is very significant. “Simply put, you cannot stop the men and women of the F.B.I. from doing the right thing,” he said. He also emphasized that Comey had the support of most people within the FBI, saying, “Director Comey enjoyed broad support within the F.B.I. and still does.” But White House spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders continued trying to undermine that report by saying that she had talked to “countless members of the F.B.I. that are grateful and thankful for the president’s decision.”

But when pressed for details by reporters, Huckabee Sanders admitted that she didn’t “know that many people in the F.B.I.” At the same time, President Donald Trump claimed he fired Comey because he thought “this Russia thing with Trump” was a story Democrats made up to explain why they lost the election. And it has also been revealed the two had dinner in the White House, but accounts on what happened differ.

Sean Spicer’s Public Venmo Receives Lots of Requests https://legacy.lawstreetmedia.com/blogs/humor-blog/sean-spicer-venmo/ https://legacy.lawstreetmedia.com/blogs/humor-blog/sean-spicer-venmo/#respond Wed, 08 Feb 2017 19:54:55 +0000 https://lawstreetmedia.com/?p=58755

The internet wants Sean Spicer to put his money where his mouth is.

From sharing an Onion article about himself, to tweeting out what some have speculated are his own passwords, White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer may not be the most technologically-savvy person. So it comes as no surprise that the internet has reportedly discovered his public Venmo account.

The podcast “Who? Weekly” first tweeted about the existence of Spicer’s rumored account after it was discovered by a fan of the podcast. Venmo is a mobile app that allows people to send and request money from each other, so naturally users took advantage of the opportunity to ask Spicer to cover their expenses.

After Spicer claimed that demonstrators who protested President Donald Trump’s immigration ban were paid, one person asked him to put his money where his mouth is.

Others threw in a reference to Kellyanne Conway’s made-up Bowling Green Massacre story.

Concert tickets can be expensive, so why not ask Sean Spicer for help?

A couple of people were stressed  out about the last couple of weeks, and wanted some reimbursement.

Unsurprisingly, people got political.

And of course, they poked fun at his feud with Dippin Dots and his unusual habit of eating at least two and a half packs of chewing gum each day.

But those who got a response learned that Spicer wasn’t feeling too generous.

Whether or not these Venmo users get paid, the situation may make great material for Melissa McCarthy’s next “Saturday Night Live” appearance.

What’s New with the Travel Ban?

Things are moving quickly; on Friday, federal Judge James Robart in Seattle temporarily blocked President Donald Trump’s travel ban on people from seven predominantly Muslim countries. Trump responded by calling Judge Robart a “so-called judge” on Twitter and pledged to work to overturn the ruling. Trump claims that letting travelers in will put national security at risk and that we should all blame Judge Robart if there’s a terrorist attack–drawing criticism from many Democrats and quite a few Republicans.

On Saturday afternoon, Trump’s Administration filed a notice of appeal. But on Sunday a federal appeals court said “nope” and that Judge Robart’s ruling stands. Both sides have until close of business today to file briefs before the 9th Circuit makes a final ruling.

The states of Minnesota and Washington, which filed the lawsuit in the first place, are now joined by close to 100 tech companies that are arguing that the ban would harm their businesses. Apple, Google, Airbnb, eBay, Lyft, Microsoft, Uber, and many others filed briefs last night, claiming that a travel ban would make it difficult to hire employees and that “immigrants make many of the Nation’s greatest discoveries.” The case continues today and the end of this long road is likely the Supreme Court.

Former Producer Gavin Polone Sues Warner Bros. Over “Gilmore Girls” Revival https://legacy.lawstreetmedia.com/blogs/entertainment-blog/former-producer-gavin-polone-sues-warner-bros-over-gilmore-girls-revival/ https://legacy.lawstreetmedia.com/blogs/entertainment-blog/former-producer-gavin-polone-sues-warner-bros-over-gilmore-girls-revival/#respond Tue, 12 Apr 2016 13:45:11 +0000 http://lawstreetmedia.com/?p=51835

Some trouble in Stars Hollow.

When news came out that Netflix was spearheading a “Gilmore Girls” revival, fans (including myself) rejoiced. However not everyone was as happy. Gavin Polone, the original producer of the popular early 2000s dramedy, is suing Warner Bros. to get compensation for the new episodes of the show.

Netflix is planning four installments of long episodes/movies–around 90 minutes–that includes many members of the original cast, including Lauren Graham, Alexis Bledel, Kelly Bishop, Scott Patterson, and Melissa McCarthy, as well as the original writer/director Amy Sherman-Palladino. The show, which ended in 2007, explored the lives of a single mother, her daughter, parents, family and friends in bucolic Connecticut.

As of right now, the release date for the new installment of “Gilmore Girls” has not been determined, but the show’s revival has already garnered heavy news coverage. As various former cast members have signed on, there has been rampant speculation about what the plot will be, and photos from the set were recently released.

In a suit filed late last week in Los Angeles, Polone claims that the contract he had with Warner Bros. entitles him to $32,500 per episode created after 2003, and some of the money gleaned from the episode, as well as an executive producer credit. All said and done, Polone argues he’s owed just under $200,000. According to Polone’s lawsuit, Warner Bros. obviously disagrees:

Defendant refuses to compensate plaintiff in any way for the Subsequent Episodes of Gilmore Girls. Defendant argues that the Subsequent Episodes do not fall under the terms of the Operative Agreement, making the absurd claim that the Subsequent Episodes are derivative works based on the television series Gilmore Girls. Defendant also appears to erroneously believe the Subsequent Episodes are not considered a ‘television series’ because they are being produced for Netflix, rather than a traditional broadcast network.

As of right now, Warner Bros. has not released a comment.
