I appreciate and relate to this piece greatly. The assumption that feminism has ran its course and we have “equal rights” is tremendously incorrect. Every day women face discrimination that is ignored and disregarded, from the guy that feels you up in the subway to being called sweetie or darling by random strangers, or worse, your boss. And if you say anything against it, you become a problem maker, that girl who is never satisfied (because wanting to be treated as a human being is asking too much). OKCupid’s anonymity gives men the freedom of being as misogynistic as they please with little or no recourse. Many men post on their profiles that “a no is a yes that just needs convincing”, “women should be obligated to shave their legs”, “they have rape fantasies” or the phrase “your a bitch” foes not bother them for lack of grammar or it’s implied secist profanity. I recently lost my job due to male harassment, working in a male dominated feild, and being called “too much of a girl about things” “a c*nt”, a little girl, being threatened; all of which my superiors noted and disregarded, and I was let go for being a problem. The harassed faced no recourse, and I was told they would not be hiring a woman again “because of my drama”. My drama was not to submit to gender bias, threats, verbal assualts and discrimination and to report it; and I was the top performer of my skill set in the region. But I was a problem. Gender equality? It doesn’t exist. Given the right platforms, men will express their inherit disdain for women,and wish they would be the blow up dolls. Not all men fall into ythis category. Spend twenty minutes on OKcupid as a woman and you will discover what gender equality really means. Thank you.
