Hi Amanda! While I agree with you that women need to be able to protect themselves, no one is interfering with Americans’ Second Amendment rights. The U.S. has some of the most permissive gun laws in the world, and our history of mass shootings (like the recent UCSB shooting mentioned in this post) shows that more guns are often not the answer. While I’m all for women protecting themselves, solving violence with more violence doesn’t seem to be the best answer to me.

I would rather the statistic be 1 in 6 women fatally shot their attackers in an attempted sexual assault. Sadly, most of the people I see embracing the idea that women should simply be allowed to “be” (whatever that is supposed to mean) are also in support of limiting the ability of women to protect themselves with firearms. Rape, in my opinion, is the worst of all crimes. It would not upset me in the least to see each and every person who attempted to rape another human being ended before they could carry out their assault.
